🙋‍♂️Expert review by…

Hi I’m Mark, a scooter technical expert for ScootersForAdults.co.uk. I’m not afraid to admit that I spend most Saturday’s fixing scooters and bikes!

As I mentioned, I starting using a commuter scooter 5 years ago on my London commute. And have since tested many scooters in various cities around the UK. I have narrowed it down to my favourite 6 commuter scooters.

🛴 My 6 Fav Adult Commuter Scooters…

⚠️ Firstly, Why Are There No Electric Scooters Featured Below?

You might be wondering – where are the electric scooters?

⚡ While electric scooters are growing in popularity, they’re currently not legal to use on public pavements or roads in the U.K. (unless part of an approved rental trial). That means owning and riding your own privately purchased adult e-scooter could result in fines or confiscation if used on public ground.

So, I’ve focused only on non-electric kick scooters in this guide – the ones that are:

  • ✅ Fully legal to ride in the UK
  • ✅ Allowed on pavements and cycle paths
  • ✅ Lightweight and foldable for public transport

If / when the laws change, I’ll update this guide or create a separate e-scooter commuter guide. But for now, non-electric kick scooters remain the safest (and most legal) bet for daily city commuting.

🏙️ 1. Micro Classic Scooter

Brand: Micro Scooters
Price Range: £180–£200

I’ve got to start with the Micro Classic scooter. It’s one of the most popular commuter scooters around, and regularly top of the best kick scooters for adults by commuters and experts.

I do own one of these and have been using it for years. I love the fact it has large 200mm wheels, and feels very smooth when riding it. I’ve actually not heard a bad word about it.

Key Features:

If your commute is over 2 miles and mostly pavement-based, this scooter is an excellent pick. It folds easily, and stores well in any office – I’ve stored it in many! If you need even more detail we’ve also written a Micro Classic Scooter review.

  • Large 200mm PU wheels
  • Foldable and sturdy

🧭 Can you use a Commuter Scooter in all U.K. Cities?

These scooters are suitable for commuting in any U.K. city, whether that’s:

  • 🚆 Birmingham (with tram + scooter combo)
  • 🛴 Edinburgh (pavement-heavy routes)
  • 🚴 Manchester (cycle paths galore)
  • 🚇 London (multi-modal routes)

🚶‍➡️How do you commute with a Scooter?

What I tend to do is either chuck my scooter over my shoulder, like the right hand pic here, with it open, so when I need to jump on my scooter again I can quickly. For say a downhill run once I get off or approaching a bus stop I have it like this.

I also obviously fold it up too when it’s not in use for long. Here’s an example of me simply holding it and carrying it in one hand. This is why I often recommend a lightweight scooter for commuting. Because you can just grab it and it’s really not heavy at around 5kg (for kick scooters) – while electric scooters are much heavier at 12-17kg, meaning you’re unlikely to walk around like this.

In terms of once you’re on the tube or train, or bus or tram, just rest the folded scooter on your lap, or put it beside your feet. This is the best way, keeping it out of any tripping zone from people getting on and off. You can even get a scooter carry bag to make it easier to hold and keep away on public transport.
