School mornings can be hectic to say the least! I’ve got two little boys and jeez is it hard to get them out in the morning. But, it has started to get enjoyable since my 6 year old now scooters to school – so I join him on my adult scooter. This scooters for school runs guide dives into my opinions on which scooters are best for a ride along with your kids to school.

Hi I’m Mark, a scooter expert for ScootersForAdults.co.uk. I’ve got to say since I started scooting on the school run it’s become the most enjoyable parts of my week. So check out below my top picks for adult scooters for school runs.
🛴 Top 5 Adult Scooters for School Runs
1. Micro Sprite Suspension

- Weight: 4.1 kg
- Wheel Size: 145mm
- Foldable: Yes
- Max Load: 100 kg
The Micro Sprite Suspension is one hell of an adaptable scooter. Suitable for both teens and adults it’s perfect for a speed, short ride like a school run. It’s not heavy by any means and I’ve always found it easy to fold, easy to ride, and keeps up with a daredevil 6 year old along with path to his school!
I like this breakdown that Micro give you when you buy the Micro Spite scooter. It highlights neatly the benefits, like cork handles, foldability, and that it’s lightweight and compact. This is an awesome little scooter, and a great commuter scooter too, if you then hop on the train after the school drop off.

2. Micro Speed

- Weight: 3.75 kg
- Wheel Size: 145mm
- Foldable: Yes
- Max Load: 100 kg
One of the lightest adult scooters out there, and a perfect scooter for the school run. The Micro speed, as you can see from my close up pics below, comes with brilliant features, easy fold, adjustable handlebars, wide deck, and smaller wheels (145mm vs 200mm – which is great cos it means the scooter is lighter). Take a look at our Micro unboxing guide too for an even closer look at the scooter.

3. Oxelo Town 7XL

- Max Rider Weight: 100 kg
- Wheel Size: 200 mm
- Weight: 5.6 kg
- Folding: Yes
Next up is the Oxelo T7XL, a personal fav of mine as this is one I used for a while to ride with my son to school. He was on his little Micro and falling off occasionally, while I had this nifty guy. It’s big but it’s not small either. I’d say it’s the perfect adult scooter size. It comes with a handbrake, which is handy when my son does a hard-stop. And the suspension is an awesome feature for riding over uneven pavement.

4. JD Bug Pro Commute

- Price: ~£99
- Wheel Size: 185 mm
- Weight: 4.7 kg
- Folding: Yes
The bug is a great zippy little scooter. Cheap, under £100 typically (rated on our adult scooters under £100 guide), it folds easily and handles well. For the school run it’s just what you need, you can ride alongside your kids with ease and jump off and fold it right away as soon as you get to the school gates.
5. i9Max iScooter ⚡

- 💰 Approx. £498
- 🔋 Up to 25-30 miles (~40-50 km) range
- 🏁 Max speed up to ~35 km/h
- 🚂 Peak motor around 500 W
- 💧 IP-rating ~IP54
- 🚦 Brighter headlight, rear brake light
- 🪫 Charging time ~6-7 hours
- 🏋️ Weight: ~15-16 kg
The i9Max from iScooter is a top electric pick in my opinion. iScooters are becoming increasingly popular now, and if you’re able to use an electric scooter for any part of your school run, then this is a great choice. I’ve used it many times.
If you need a bit more info, check out our iScooter review, and we talk about their models there too, the i8, i9, and i10Plus.

6. Pure Air4 Pro⚡

- 🔋 50km range
- 🛞 Big 10″ wheels
- 🏁 Max speed 15.5 mph
- 🚂 500 W motor (710 W peak)
- 💧 IP65 dust & water resistant
- 🪫Charging time 6 hours
Rated highly on our best electric scooter guide, the Pure Air 4 Pro is such an awesome scooter. Ok, you’re not legally allowed to ride an electric scooter on U.K. pavements or roads, but it can be used on private property or some paths I believe – but do check before you head out.
Here’s some snaps of my 4 Pro, but more can be found in our Pure Air 4 Pro scooter review. I love the little dash on the handlebars and the deck is super spacious. It charges in about 6 hours and it’s a great choice to glide along with your kids on the school run (U.K. rules permitting).

Most UK schools allow scooters up to the gate, but check with your school’s policy before riding inside.
If your commute continues after school drop-off, yes, an electric scooter is better. The Pure Air4 Pro saves time and energy, just be mindful of local laws around riding, as it is currently illegal to ride an electric scooter in the U.K. on pavements and roads.
